We also wanted to bring you the latest updates….and to ask for your help!

First, as you may know, Delta Secondary School and Sir John A. MacDonald Secondary School will no longer be available for our Saturday game. As such, we have moved games to Henderson Secondary School and Glendale Secondary School. We will continue to hold games at Sherwood Secondary School on Saturdays.

Our Junior Boys Division has historically had their practices and games on Sundays at Sir John A. MacDonald. However, due to this school closure, this upcoming season, their practices and games will be held on Saturday afternoons at Glendale Secondary School.

Lastly, this upcoming 2019-2020 season poses some extraordinary challenges. In past years, we enjoyed (and appreciated!) significant subsidies from the HWDSB in terms of reducing the costs for renting school gyms for practices and games. This has helped keep our registration fees low to allow accessibility to basketball for all youth in Hamilton, regardless of economic background. Unfortunately, there have been many recent cuts to funding, and we are facing a very large increase in facility fees for this upcoming season due to these cuts.

Registration fees have been raised this upcoming season to cover part of these new costs, but our goal is to keep them as low as possible. The HBA, as part of its mission statement, strives to provide an affordable recreational option for children from every economic situation, and in order to do this, we need to find ways to cover this increase in cost. We are looking at a number of options, including our operational procedures and our suppliers.

We are also looking to our community and business partners to help minimize this increase in costs. We have many levels of sponsorship available and we would appreciate your help and support! We accept both corporate and personal sponsorships.
